The European Union trims import duty
The European Union trims import duty on aluminum from 6 percent to 3 percent. Until recently, the EU duty on primary aluminum and aluminum alloys stood at 6 percent. The reduction hasn’t extended to alloys, i.e. their duty will remain 6 percent for a while.
The aluminum duty is in force for ten years already and it could be finally abolished by 2009.
The EU decision of curtailing import duties for Russia’s aluminum to 3 percent takes effect in proximate future. It was made in Brussels under the pressure of East Europe’s members that joined the EU in May of 2004.
