UC RUSAL’S Aluminium Division receives ISO 14001
The certificate was issued by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an international auditing company based in Norway, which confirms that UC RUSAL’s Aluminium Division, comprising the world’s largest smelters in Bratsk and Krasnoyarsk, produces and supplies its products in full compliance with the ISO 14001 standard.
Viktor Zhirnakov, Director of the Aluminium Division commented, “The certification of the Aluminium Division’s environmental management system is testimony to the major investment UC RUSAL has made in modernisation of its facilities and reduction in environmental impact. In order to further reduce emissions within the framework of the Paving The Way To A Safer World environmental strategy, we are working on the creation of colloidal anode technology. Together with the Canadian engineering company SNS – LAVALIN, we are implementing international–standard monitoring of GHG emissions from our smelters. We will continue to invest in R&D and innovative engineering to make improvements in all areas of the company’s sustainable development programme.”
The formalised structure of UC RUSAL Aluminium Division’s environmental activities is resulting in a reduction of environmental impact at all stages of production while continuously improving management and production processes.
The ISO 14001 certification is another step in achieving the Aluminium Division’s strategic objective or an integrated management system. The system complies with the full range of international requirements, ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. . In 2006 the Aluminium Division received ISO 9001 quality management standard certificate. Additionally, the smelters supplying products for the automobile industry (Krasnoyarsk, Novokuznetsk, and Sayanogorsk) received ISO/TS 16949 technical specification compliance certificates.
