Lebedinsky GOK passed environmental audit

Environmental management system of Lebedinsky Mining and Processing Plant (Lebedinsky GOK, a subsidiary of METALLOINVEST Holding) has successfully passed a regular inspection audit to comply with the requirements of the international standard GOST R ISO 14001:2007.

The audit has been conducted by the representatives of the Interregional Center for Environmental Audit and Consulting. Assessment was focused on the following systems:
- Waste management system
- Environment monitoring system
- Emergency management training programme

As a result of the assessment auditors confirmed that the plant fulfills its environmental protection obligations. Iron ore concentrate, pellets, and hot briquetted iron are produced according to the ecological laws and regulations.

Recertification of the plant is planned for 2011 within the frames of the adopted schedule. In the period of preparation an experiment to sprinkle the plant’s tailing pit and biological cleaning of ponds and draining water will be made. Also ecological programmes will be implemented in cooperation with the state forest reserve “Yamskaya Steppe”.
