PRC Ministry of Environmental Protection delegation visits Izhorskiye Zavody production facilities

zhorskiye Zavody production facilities were visited by the delegation of the People’s Republic of China Ministry of Environmental Protection, headed by Chen Jinyuan.

The delegation included Hao Xiaofeng, director of the nuclear energy division of the Nuclear Safety Department, Gao Wentao, general director of the Northern Regional Department of Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Xu Xianhong, director of the Nuclear Monitoring Department, Zhang Chunming, deputy director of the reactor systems department of the Nuclear Safety Center, and Yao Gang, director of the nuclear safety department of the Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation.

The guests have visited the metallurgical and machine-building shops of the Izhorskiye Zavody production facility and have witnessed all stages of the nuclear equipment production – from slab production on the DSP 120 electric smelting unit to control and testing. Izhorskiye Zavody Research and Development Center has showcased its extensive capabilities.

The Chinese specialists have also been shown the manufacturing progress of long-cycle equipment for the second stage of Tianwan nuclear power plant, initiated in October 2010 after an audit of the manufacturing facilities and the quality management system conducted by JNPC specialists.

In the Izhorskiye Zavody building #34 the guests were shown the billets for the reactor shell equipment and upper casing of the third unit of Tianwan nuclear power plant. The delegation members were satisfied with how the work is proceeding and expressed confidence in the high quality of the equipment that will be delivered by Izhorskiye Zavody.

“It is very important that both shareholders and the management take serious and responsible approach towards modernization of the production facilities, especially regarding metallurgical production, testing and welding units, -- said Chen Jinyuan, general director of the Nuclear Safety Department. – You have made a huge step forward. Currently you have not just modern equipment and technologies, but highly qualified personnel as well”.

After the delegation returns to China, official documents will be signed at the State Nuclear Registry, designating OAO Izhorskiye Zavody and OOO OMZ Spetsstal as the equipment manufacturers for the second stage of Tianwan nuclear power plant.
