“Severstal” improves quality of production control
The Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant (part of division Severstal Russian Steel) launched Technological Process Control System project, worth a total of 42 million rubles.
The goal of the investment project is to improve management decision making process efficiency, by promptly delivering information on all production processes at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant.
The general building contractor of the project being “Russian Steel” – “Severstal-Promservice ”, LTD. As part of the project, a video wall of 12 LCD monitors, equipped with three workstations to be installed in the main control room. “Siemens”, “IBM” and “Oracle” are going to supply main equipment and software.
Implementation of the project involves the creation of three-dimensional model (for) of the production cycle, presented on the display wall in the form of mimic state technological objects with parameters data.
At present, technological processes of drop-hammer plant, steel-smelting and hot-rolled mill production have already been visualized in 3D format. Upon completion of the project, scheduled for 3Q, 2012, the operation control and monitoring system will cover all major and minor subdivisions of iron-and-steel works.
According to Andrey Lutsenko, Director for Manufacture and Chief Engineer “Severstal Russian Steel” division, the launch of the new system will ensure fulfillment of production programs and tasks for the metallurgical complex, with maximum efficiency and minimum expenses on cost and time.
“Integrated control in real-time mode of the entire chain from metal scrap processing to steel melting and metal-rolling will allow us to respond in due time to current situations and to make management decisions quickly. Ultimately, it will ensure high quality of products and will increase economical efficiency of the production process”, said Andrey Lutsenko.
